Cristóbal Balenciaga opened his first house in San Sebastián in 1917 before relocating to Paris in 1937, where his sculptural, architectural silhouettes earned him rare respect from rival designers.
Under creative director Demna today, the house has become a byword for oversized, deliberately provocative design. The eyewear is built to be noticed, not blended in.
