Finding a Frame Shape That Actually Suits You

Customer browsing a wall of eyeglass frames at an optical boutique

A frame shape can balance your features and make a pair of glasses feel like it was built for your face specifically. Here's a starting point — though nothing replaces trying frames on.

Round faces

Round faces read well in sharper, more angular frames — rectangular or geometric shapes add definition and make features look longer and more balanced.

Square faces

Strong jawline, similar-width forehead? Round or oval frames soften those angles. Skip heavy square frames, which tend to double down on an already angular face.

Oval faces

The most forgiving shape — most frames work. Aim for something as wide as, or slightly wider than, the broadest part of your face to keep your natural balance.

Heart-shaped faces

Wider forehead, narrower chin — frames that carry more weight at the bottom (light, rimless, or cat-eye styles) balance the proportions. Skip heavy, decorative top frames that pull more attention upward.

Diamond faces

Narrow forehead and jaw, wide cheekbones — oval or browline frames soften the cheekbones while adding width at the brow and jaw.

Ignore the chart a little

Face shape is a useful starting point, not a rulebook. Skin tone, personal style, and how a frame actually feels matter just as much. A frame that photographs perfectly in a size guide might not be the one you reach for every morning.
